About Melver Mercado
 Melver is from Cebu City, Philippines. He primarily works with watercolor and oil, and has a strong interest in landscape and marine subjects, where most of his works are inspired by travels around the country, a very tropical and maritime nation with bright sunlight ideal for painters looking for exotic subjects.
His love for painting is an artistic progression. At a young age, it started by copying illustrations, creating graphic designs, and painting abstract pieces, until he studied fine art and become more serious, drawing toward representational art, who got him interested in portraying nature.
For him, painting has become a comfort and a way of enjoying what is in front of him- the experience of color and atmosphere, the mood, and the merit found within the challenging process of creation.

Santiago Beach
Santiago Beach — this oil paintings was greatly inspired by my vacation at Camotes Island a few years ago. I had already painted it twice in watercolor variations, but this time, I finally painted it in oil. It took me several years of wishful thinking to paint it in oil because I was so enamored with watercolor, concentrating on it for 10 years as if I were spellbound.

Outdoor Painting
I never stop plein air painting, whether in watercolor, oil, gouache, or mostly drawing. As the saying goes, if you want to sharpen your skills and knowledge, nature is the ultimate teacher—we must not rely solely on photos. I also teach my students the value of confronting nature directly; although its vast amount of visual information can be overwhelming, it is never as limited as a single photo captured by a camera.
